かわいそうなひまわり ～福島原発事故によせて～
黄金の花びらを 太陽に向け、
ふりそそぐ光を 大きな葉っぱで精一杯受け止め
堂々と華やかに立ちつくす ひまわり。
かって、累々たる屍の眠る戦場（いくさば）を 覆いつくしたひまわり
花の黄色は、人の心を明るくし、緑の葉は、人の心を穏やかにして
数え切れない悲しみを、慰めてきた。
そして 今、
豊かで恵み多かった大地が、身勝手な人間に汚（よご）されて
あらゆる生き物の命が 脅かされる
その不健康な大地に、ひまわりは否応（いやおう）なく植えられ
大地の穢（けが）れをひたすら吸い取って枯れていく。
いつもなら、
枯れたひまわりは堆肥になって、大切な小麦やとうもろこしを
元気に育てるはずだった
しかし、汚（よご）れたひまわりは 土にかえることは許されず、
行き場のない厄介ものになるという。
ああ、かわいそうな ひまわり！
清らかな大地が、一日も早く蘇り、ひまわりが再び太陽を見上げ、
背筋をピンとして咲き誇る時がくるように
わたしもあなたも、いったい何をやったらいいのだろう！
それは、一人一人が命を育む大地を、愛くしみ大切に思うこと。
さあ、少し勇気を出して、小さなことから 何かをやってみょう
かわいそうなひまわりのために、
そして、なによりわたしたち自らの未来のために。

Poor sunflowers Thoughts on the Fukushima nuclear power disaster
Facing their golden petals toward the sun,
Catching sunlight with their big leaves,
Sunflowers stand stately and gorgeously.
At one time, they covered battlefields with a myriad of corpses resting beneath.
The yellow of the flowers made one’s feelings bright.
The green of the leaves made one’s feelings calm.
In that way, they consoled countless sorrows.
Yet now, the once rich and fruitful earth lies polluted by mankind’s selfishness.
Each living thing’s life, threatened.
Sunflowers are forcefully planted in the polluted fields,
Absorbing contamination until they die.
Usually, dead sunflowers are supposed to be turned to compost, helping wheat and corn grow well.
Polluted sunflowers are denied this return to the earth, having been transformed into nuisances that have nowhere to go.
Ah, poor sunflowers!
What should I do, what should you do, for the quick return of the unblemished land?
What should we do, so that sunflowers can once again stand proudly and look toward the sun.
The answer is that each one of us should love and cherish the life-giving earth.
Now then, call upon a bit of your courage and do something for the poor sunflowers.
But more than that, for the future of ourselves.
